A Mother’s Journey Begins
In May 2025, a new chapter began for Harriet, a resilient single mother of six, and her youngest daughters—Zahara (6) and Shadia (5).
One afternoon, the girls were seen playing unsupervised by the roadside. A concerned team member from Mukisa Children’s Community Centre approached their mother and introduced our mission. Subsequently, the family was offered an unexpected opportunity: the girls had been selected for sponsorship to join Mukisa Vibes, an 18-day holiday camp designed to nurture young minds through play, learning, and connection.
Harriet, cautious but curious, asked:
“What do you gain from helping someone like me?”
The answer:
“We’re here for parents like you—who love their children deeply but lack access to resources that help them grow safely and successfully.”
Harriet responded with conviction:
“Then I am willing to visit the place and understand what you do—for the sake of my children.”
A Family Transformed
The results were extraordinary. Zahara and Shadia thrived at the camp—growing intellectually and socially, forming friendships, and embracing a nurturing environment. Their transformation inspired Harriet to become more engaged with Mukisa.
During a review session, Harriet—affectionately known as Maama Zahara—shared:
“I may not have the means, but whenever an opportunity comes that makes my children better, I do not shy away from taking it.”
This was the first life-changing opportunity for Harriet and her daughters, made possible because someone chose to care.
