Ahumuza and Team set out to Mobilize the Community
Mukisa Children’s Community Centered opened in March of 2024 with an Open Day party for the neighbors. The library, art and music room were bustling with activity. Children and parents engaged in play and games, enjoyed treats, face painting and cake to celebrate their new community Centre. Since then, Doreen Ahumuza, our community Mobiliser has been busy spreading the word about the new facility in Kimwanyi, Kayebe and small communities around MCCC. “MCCC was warmly welcomed first by the local council leaders of the villages around, since it is seen as an organization helping to transform the attitude of parents towards child care through ‘Behavior Change Communication’ (BCC) messages.”

Initially, the community had a misconception about the Centre. They believed that it would be an
organization that sponsored children for school and provided free services to the community. However,
once informed that the organization is membership based and focused on caring for pre-school children;
and some of the children experienced May and August Mukisa Vibes and other programs, Ms. Ahumuza
indicated that “our parents realized that the children have learnt how to socialize, share and have
improved characters.” She also noted that as a result of attending MCCC Practical Parenting sessions,
parents have reported improved relationships between children and parents as well as caregivers”.
